Dr. Jb Labrune is an Interdisciplinary Practitioner at the intersection of Research, Design, Arts & Diplomacy exploring new materials that could be “programmed” in a way that is benevolent for nature and for humans. His works focus on the notion of “Exaptation“, the way in which users of technologies & communities reconfigure and hack them, producing original and unexpected functions and uses.
He completed his Phd about Creativity at INRIA and postdoc in Arts & Sciences at MIT Medialab, then became Researcher at Bell Labs and Interaction Design professor at ENSAD (Arts Décos School). He now leads his own practice at Radical Design Studios and teaches in various places like Sciences Po or Ecole des Mines in Paris. He is also an expert for different governements in cultural and scientific diplomacy.
He organized and led many “hybrid” workshops in art & sciences places in France (Arts Décos, Beaux-Arts, Palais de Tokyo, Mains d’Oeuvres, Polytechnique) & around the world (ZhdK, Mediamatic, Interaction Design Institute Ivréa, IMAL, Hangar, Hyperwerk, Akademie Schloss Solitude, MIT Medialab).
